RAWEMA, Chemnitz
Coloured light accents transform the former prefab building into a modern eye-catcher.
The RAWEMA house is a former office building from the 1960s, in which the administration of the so-called "rationalization of machine tool building" was based in the GDR times. After the end of the planned economy, the building stood empty for many years in the middle of downtown Chemnitz until a hotel opened there in 2012. The former slab construction was brought back to the fore, not only from the inside, but also from the outside. A colourful wall of light adorns the façade of the RAWEMA house and puts the old walls as a visual highlight in the foreground.
